Bland Diets

What is a “bland diet”?

“Bland diet” is a term that is used for human diets as well. Wikipedia’s definition is: “A bland diet is a diet consisting of foods that are generally soft, low in dietary fiber, cooked rather than raw, and not spicy. Fried and fatty foods, strong cheeses, whole grains (rich in fiber), and the medications aspirin and ibuprofen are also avoided while on this diet.” So in essence, our product provides the protein needed and the low fiber white rice which is filling yet soothing to a dog’s digestive system.

Do you offer a bland diet for cats?

We recommend Salmon & Rice.

Do I have to cook the entire pouch of freeze-dried bland diet?

Nope! You can prepare single servings according to the directions on the pouch. When storing the uncooked leftovers, squeeze all the air out, reseal the pouch, and refrigerate. And if you know you will be using 2-3 servings over a day or so, you may want to cook the entire pouch and refrigerate the leftovers.

After I re hydrate the bland diet, how long will it stay good in my refrigerator?

If properly covered and stored in a refrigerator, the rehydrated food will last 5-7 days.

Where are your meats sourced?

It’s important to us that all of our meats are 100% sourced in the USA and human grade. Our chicken and turkey are cage-free, our beef is grass-fed, and our salmon is wild line-caught.

How many meals are in a pouch?

Once hydrated, there are almost 4 cups of food, which is about 2-3 meals for an average sized dog.

Does it need to be boiling water that’s added or is warm/hot water ok?

Please use boiling water and serve when cool.

Do your bland diets help dogs with pancreatitis?

Our products help many dogs with pancreatitis but we are not veterinarians and we recommend you check with your vet.

Do your bland diets have sodium? Our dog has cardiac issues.

Yes. Our bland diets contain small amounts of sodium (electrolytes). We have 76 mg per cup. As comparison, prescription cardiac diets contain approximately 154.5mg, so we are far below the levels that dogs with cardiac issues need to adhere to.

Why use white rice not brown rice?

Brown rice is more difficult to digest. White rice is stickier helping the bad bacteria stick to it for elimination. In addition, brown rice contains the husk causing further irritation.

Are the meats already cooked?

Yes. The meats are cooked and then freeze-dried so they are super tasty while retaining essential nutrients.

My dog loves your food! Can I use the bland diets as an ongoing diet?

The bland diets do not have all the nutrients needed for a long-term diet. However, many customers use the bland diets as a topper/mixer after their dog is feeling better, as dogs love the taste!
