MARCH 23 - CELEBRATE NATIONAL PUPPY DAY

Who doesn’t break into a smile when they see puppies? Hard to imagine these bubbly, energy filled fur balls not lifting the hearts of everyone we know. Well let’s pull out the stops and celebrate National Puppy Day on March 23!

National Puppy Day was established in 2006 by Colleen Paige, Pet Lifestyle Expert, to celebrate the perfect joy and love these pups bring to our lives, as well as educate all of us about the importance of adoption vs purchasing our animals from pet stores which only fuels the puppy mill industry.

With the help of social media, the awareness of this holiday has spread worldwide and is now considered an international holiday. To ready more about this holiday and the importance of adoption, go to www.NationalPuppyDay.com.

Doing Our Part to Stop the Puppy Mills

It’s a tragedy to see the overpopulated dog shelters in the U.S.A. As dog lovers, our hearts break at the sight of inhumane treatment of these creatures. The ASPCA commercials are just a tip of the abuse these animals endure, and it’s up to us to raise the awareness and become change agents.

There are over 8,000 puppy mills in our country, including the backyard breeders who sell their dogs locally or online. Puppies sold in commercial pet stores are the number one reason that the puppy mill industry thrives, so the first step is to stop purchasing from these stores and reach out to the dog adoption centers and rescue shelters in your area or state.

If you think that the only way to get a purebred is to go to a breeder, then think again. There are many purebred puppies and adult dogs that have been orphaned for whatever reason. And, do a little searching online to find hundreds of purebred rescue operations to find the breed of your choice.

Once you’ve adopted, be sure to keep the process going by spaying your neutering your new family member to help reduce further overpopulation leading to the unnecessary euthanizing of perfectly good dogs.
